The Zen of Wabi Sabi

The ancient Japanese term Wabi Sabi celebrates the appreciation for the beauty found in simplicity, authenticity, and the passage of time. It invites us to slow down, notice the subtle details, and find value in things that are honest rather than perfect.

This philosophy shapes every piece created in the workshop. The goal is not to hide natural character, but to embrace it—allowing the work to reflect the quiet beauty that exists in both the material and the making.

"I believe the most meaningful things are not perfect—they are honest, enduring, and uniquely their own."

Inspiration

Guided by the honest beauty of nature.

Inspiration often begins with observation. A weathered board, the flow of grain across a surface, or the simple purpose a piece will serve can become the starting point for an idea.

Rather than imposing a design onto the material, the process is one of listening and discovery. I allow each piece to evolve through a conversation between craftsmanship, function, and the natural character of the wood itself.

“Nature designs in perfect silence. I follow its lead.”

Craftsmanship

Slow. Intentional. Deeply human.

Every piece begins with intention. Boards are carefully selected, grain is considered, and each cut is made with purpose. Traditional joinery and thoughtful construction create strength that extends beyond function, becoming part of the character of the piece itself.

Nothing is rushed. I take time to refine details, soften edges, and bring balance to the work. The result is not simply an object, but something made to be used, appreciated, and passed forward.

"Nothing rushed. Nothing overlooked."

Materials

Wood chosen for truth and character.

Wood carries a story long before it enters the workshop. Grain patterns, subtle color variations, knots, and natural markings reflect years of growth and give each board its own unique character.

Rather than hiding these distinctions, they are embraced as part of the finished piece. I choose materials for their honesty and individuality, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to remain present in every creation.

“The materials speak; I simply listen.”
